Be enthusiast about the business
People who have the view and
think that they are just going to have a vineyard, grow grapes, walk through
the vineyard, get a winery, and just sit and wait for the wine to get sold automatically
are making a great mistake. Starting winemaking business requires a lot of
patience and passions, because it takes more than a year for the vine to grow
and start making grapes for wines. If you can be able to have the zeal and be
convinced that you will stand the test of time, then you are on the right track
to having a successful winemaking business.
Money
It doesn’t matter how big or
small you want to start; what matters most is that, you will need money than
you think. It is important to know that, if you start a vineyard newly it will
take you 3 to 4 years for your first crop to get ready for action. Therefore,
you should know that maintenance of the vineyards and other miscellaneous
requires money to do that. If you don’t prepare well, you may end up having
budget overrun.
Know your target markets
Once you have your grapes ready for
processing and you have successfully make your first wine; you will need to
know what next is required of you. You will have to attract the interest of a
wholesale distributor who is willing to sell the wines to the retailers around
or beyond. It is important to know that this is not an easy job to do; however,
if you can promote your product on social media or distribute your business
cards, then everything will seem to be under control.
Know the rules and guidelines
After making all the necessary
arrangement you need to put in place and the wines are ready for sale; do not
rush into making distributions without registering with the appropriate
authorities. If your product is registered, you will be given license and
permission to start selling your wines without limitations. However, if you are
unable to secure permission to sell your wines, your business will be under
risk and will be unsecured. Also, some of these wines can be alcoholic, and you
will need the approval from the appropriate authority (government) before
selling them.
